Promoting Your Organization
The following suggestions are ways to increase your organization's exposure on campus and create brand-awareness among students. Many of these are a great way to maintain a presence even if you are not actively hiring.
Information Sessions and Tabling
Employer information sessions, (presentations, tech talks, product demo's, showcases, coding events, competitions, and pre-nights) can greatly enhance your recruitment effort. Sessions early in the semester raise student awareness about your organization and the opportunities you have to offer. Information sessions to raise awareness are most effective when you also have open positions posted and follow up a few weeks later with on-campus interviews.
Sessions held the night before interviews provide an opportunity to share information with students en mass that there is not enough time for in a 30 or 45-minute interview. It also provides an opportunity to fill any gaps you may have on your schedule.
** PLEASE NOTE: Information Session and Tech Talks should be requested four weeks prior to the desired date. Cornell University Student Activities Office requires events to be registered at least three weeks prior to the start date. Completing your request form four weeks prior to your desired date ensures your event is registered with the University within this time frame. Student organizations may be fined for late filing, or lack of filing an Event Registration Form; therefore, requests received less than three weeks prior to the desired date are not able to be processed.
Most events for engineering students are set up by Engineering Student Organizations. Please choose one of the trained and certified organizations listed below to assist in arranging your information session. The student organization, for a fee, will reserve an appropriate room on the Engineering Quad, handle catering (if you so choose) and advertise the event to all students.

If you have a flier you would like us to use for your advertising please submit it in electronic JPEG format to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please make sure your flier is in 'landscape' orientation (not portrait) as the flat panel TV monitors that are used to post advertisements are wide-screen. Advertisements are only displayed for a few seconds so please keep wording to a minimum.
Employers may also choose to table in Duffield Atrium to speak with students in a more casual environment and catch them as they attend classes. Duffield Atrium is a main corridor of traffic on the Engineering Quad. A Student Organization can also set this up for you.
Hire a Co-op Student
Have you considered hiring a Co-op student? Many employers use this not only as a pipeline for full-time hires, but also because the Co-op student serves as an ambassador for your organization upon returning to campus. Through participation in Mock Interviews, presenting in engineering classes, and writing reports about their experience at your organization, they publicize the benefits of working for your organization. Conduct a Workshop
Some employers find that conducting a workshop versus an information session results in higher attendance. This is especially useful branding for lesser known organizations. Present an evening workshop from one of the many our office conducts throughout the academic year. You can present on topics such as: interview tips, business etiquette, networking, resume building, crafting an elevator pitch, preparing for technical or case interviews, or propose your own topic. Volunteer in Our Office
- Employer Office Hours
Several times throughout the academic year, the Engineering Career Center will ask employers to volunteer to host office hours. During these office hours, employers may provide feedback on students' resumes, offer mock interviews, or simply have conversations about their career path, organization, industry standards, and more.
Cornell Alumni in Your Organization?
- Encourage them to participate in the Alumni Connections Program where they can volunteer to host Cornell students for job shadowing experiences, or provide career and industry information through informational interviews.
