Abby Westervelt

Abby Westervelt joined Cornell University as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations in the College of Engineering in 2001. She is responsible for the development and stewardship of relations between Cornell University, corporations, and foundations. Through an understanding of a broad range of research and educational initiatives, her office cultivates and oversees corporate and foundation support for programs across Cornell. The director plans, facilitates, and manages activities that help corporations, foundations and Cornell University recognize common opportunities and develop effective partnerships. Prior to holding this position, she was President of the Business Innovation Center, a business incubator supported by Cornell University and Tompkins County. She has held positions in Business Development, Finance, and Marketing at Corning Incorporated, and served as an Assistant Portfolio Manager at the Financial Planning and Investment firm, John G. Ullman and Associates. In addition to her MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell, Abby pursued doctoral work in Classics at Harvard University and holds a BA from Princeton University.

Vishal Patel joined the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations as a Program Coordinator in the College of Engineering in 2015. Prior to holding this position, he worked for Biomedical Engineering as a Seminar Coordinator, primarily coordinating the seminar series BME 7900 and BME 5010. Before coming to Cornell, Vishal served as a substitute teacher in the Ithaca City School District working with children from different backgrounds, ability and age groups. From 2009 to 2013 Vishal was co-owner and operator of a vending machine service business with accounts in multiple counties in Upstate New York. Vishal received his BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Ithaca College.
