For Parents and Families
Welcome to Cornell, a unique learning community that encourages and enables those who enter to stretch their understanding of the world. Our students participate in turning knowledge into action that benefits humanity; they fully engage in the social and intellectual environment that is Cornell. Our campus is alive with all sorts of possibilities waiting to be discovered.
In short, from the beginning of your child’s Cornell career he or she will find an invigorating and challenging world here on campus.
The first year of college is the beginning of a new journey. There are greater responsibilities, increased opportunities, and more difficult challenges to face. Your relationship will evolve in new and sometimes surprising ways. You both will become more independent, but occasionally—in addition to asking for money—your child will ask for guidance and support.
We see our role as one of partnering with you to offer the guidance and support your son or daughter needs to thrive during the Cornell years. The resources provided here are designed for both of you to navigate together the many decisions and opportunities of the first year. Resources and Contacts lists essential contacts at the college, and I invite you to call or write to us if you have questions or need additional information.
Again, welcome! I hope you will visit the campus often, enjoy the natural beauty of Ithaca, and take advantage of every opportunity to be a part of Cornell’s extended community.
