Largely due to the generosity of its alumni, parents, and friends, Cornell University’s College of Engineering has flourished, enabling greater funding of professorships, programs, and facilities. This tradition of giving is more critical now when Cornell University overall embarks on the most ambitious capital campaign in its history and the College of Engineering, supported by CornellNOW!, strives to reach goals that propel us to our vision. We will make strategic investments in the following areas of special focus.
- Recruit, retain, and enable a diverse community of exceptional faculty, students, and staff. At the absolute core of achieving top-five recognition is superb people in every category–a goal that drives all our strategic objectives. Numbers are not enough. Our objective is to attract the best people to Ithaca and to the College of Engineering.
- Educate undergraduate and graduate students to become global leaders. For several years, the College of Engineering has successfully honed the process of developing leaders. The increasing number of alumni who occupy significant roles in major organizations and in new enterprises that are impacting business in this country and around the world attest to our success. Our intention is to broaden this outcome, with added emphasis on global leadership. Our study abroad programs and project teams in underdeveloped countries shape how our graduates interact with and change the world.
- Increase the position and our strength of world leaders in research that matters and add more interdisciplinary research centers. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for faculty to pilot new ideas and generate research and interest in interdisciplinary centers through NFS funding.
- Increase our interactions with industry and create a fertile environment for entrepreneurial activity for faculty and students. Essential to being recognized as top-five in engineering education, we are pushing ourselves beyond the current impressive position we hold with industry and the entrepreneurial community. Our goals are to open new doors and reduce roadblocks, create an environment in which faculty and students come to and stay at Cornell, where expanded research garners direct industry support, and our expanding cycle of education, research, and entrepreneurship embraces the world and reaches back into our institution.
