James and Mary Tien
Trained as a chemical engineer at the University of Illinois, James Tien is chairman and managing director of the Manhattan Group, a garment manufacturing business founded by his father. In recent years, Mr. Tien has been concentrating his interest in real estate development and investment through Manhattan Holdings Limited.

He is currently chairman of Hong Kong Tourism Board, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, member of the China Overseas Friendship Association, member of the Commission on Strategic Development, member of the general committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, council member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, member of the Aviation Development Advisory Committee, court member of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and honorary chairman of the Yan Chai Hospital Board of Advisor.
The Tiens have a son, Calvin ’95 CE, M.Eng. ’96, and a daughter, Andrea, who graduated from Yale University in 1998.
